Happy independence to every Nigerian Home and Abroad. We thank God who has brought us this far as a nation through thick and thin. From all indications, God has a special interest in Nigeria as a nation and nothing can stop his work here. Pleas do well to pray for Nigeria in all manner of prayers and also do your best to be a good citizen no matter who or what is going wrong all around you. Remember two wrongs will not make a right.
This month, I’ll be addressing a topic that’s not popular on our pulpits. We only hear it in hospitals or on health talk shows on the television or after a major health challenge around us. It about Rest.
Let’s check the scriptures and establish some facts as truths.
Genesis 2:2-3 KJV
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED on the seventh day FROM ALL HIS WORK which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had RESTED FROM ALL HIS WORK which God created and made.
Rest means to cease work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength (Google search)
God is not man. He is spirit. He has no blood nor bones nor flesh that decays. He can’t get tired as spirits never gets exhausted. He can’t fall sick as spirits don’t fall sick. He is immortal, invincible. He is never tired nor weary. But for our example, to teach us how to manage our bodies, health and life as mortals, he rested on the 7th day of creation. God established this as a way for us to live, not just to read. We all know that the greatest wealth is health, yet many do not have any plan for rest. Some even prefer to convert their official leave to money and continue working.
I once heard of a dutiful nurse who did multiple shifts together without resting to increase her pay only to end up dead the third day of no rest shift. Her blood vessels were all tensed up, her body was hot and her brain just couldn’t manage the stress on the body again. When she would eventually die, her blood vessel busted via her eyes, ears and that was it. There was nothing that could be done to make her live again. She died working but because she defied the law of rest.
Our God has made all things perfect. We are the ones not applying the wisdom of God to our lives thereby endangering our dear lives.
Take care of your body; it’s the only place you live in. The key to wellness is to accept personal responsibility for your health and well being; and cheerfulness is one of the best promoter of health. Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to anyone. Stop your life from turning RED by
1. Resting well
2. Eating healthily and
3. Exercising daily;
Most times health is not valued until sickness comes as Dr Shogo will put it. Do not kill your body and mind with worries; every challenge will one day come to pass says the law of passage.
Respect your body; it’s the only copy you have and you are solely responsible for. A body part can never be well unless the whole body is well. The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely!
As much as you labour tirelessly, making sure you fulfill purpose, at the same time you just have to always remember that you are not immortal. You are 100% human. You carry your spirit and soul (the invisible part) inside this container called body. So be wise enough to know your elastic limit and pause when its reached. The good news is this, the Lord says in Exodus 23:26b KJV
“… the number of thy days I will fulfill.”
Yet, God is limited if you do not corporate with him by taking care of your health (body and soul in particular) jealously. The groundwork of all happiness is good health; listen to your body! So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend all the wealth to regain their health. Listen, just because you’re not sick presently doesn’t mean you’re healthy. May none of your organ die before you!
How often do you rest? As a believer, the Lord has made so many promises in his word. Let’s check some:
1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Proverbs 3:5 KJV
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Psalm 55:16-17 KJV
As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
Now let’s see what happens when you rest:
1. Your brain, as an organ, rebrands and revitalizes itself. Nothing living does without rest.
2. Minor damages in the body heals up themselves. As we age, some cells and tissues experience wear and tears as we go about our daily activities. When we take time to rest, these wear and tears gets healed up by self invention.
3. Your body is recovers whenever you rest. Our bodies are living machines and not robots. Each rest session revitalizes our internal system beyond what we can fathom.
4. Your Immune System Can Overheat. Without proper rest, your immune system can’t catch up to all the repairs your body needs. And then, injuries.
5. Rest is good for effectiveness as a spirit being. Isaiah 30:15 KJV
“… in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” We will function better, stronger, healthier and more efficiently when we take rest as a major part.
May the Lord bless you as you take these to heart and fulfill your days in good health.
Have a fulfilling month!
Happy New Month.
